Working with WordPress. Introduction

Without Ecommerce, sales on the Internet are not possible, and the economy of the world, of any country, depends on sales. Everyone is used to the fact that you can easily navigate the price of a product or service just by entering the word “buy” and the name of the product/service. It is easy, convenient and practical, both for the end user and for sellers, small entrepreneurs or owners of huge marketplaces.

The advantages of using Ecommerce systems are obvious:

  • you don’t need to choose the store’s working hours, because the sites do not have weekends or sleeping hours;
  • no need to spend time on the way to the store;
  • you can place an order by pressing a few buttons on your smartphone, comfortably sitting at home on the couch;
  • the seller does not spend money on renting premises and sellers, and therefore can offer a lower price than competitors with “real” stores;
  • receiving the goods can be limited only to the delivery service;
  • if the product is virtual, the client receives it instantly after paying the price;
  • the seller does not need to keep a product accounting system, because the quantity of the product is taken into account on the website and is immediately debited upon purchase;
  • by pressing a few buttons, it is easy to make a sale or plan its start and duration.

WooCommerce allows you to work with all these list easily and for free. At SELECTOR.SPACE we use CMS WordPress in the majority of our projects, to which WooCommerce can be easily connected as a plugin. After installation, an ordinary catalog with a list of goods or services is easily transformed into a full-fledged store with prices, various payment and delivery methods.

WordPress and WooCommerce themes

At SELECTOR.SPACE we mainly work with clients who want a unique design that will distinguish their site from other ones and indicate their uniqueness. But nowadays, a developer no longer has to create a bunch of files, give them appropriate names, and write code according to the WordPress code. There is a great resource – underscores.me. which will instantly generate a framework for WordPress theme development. But if the project involves working with the functionality of the store, with WooCommerce, then it is worth to remember that you need to specify this accordingly when creating a theme on the resource indicated above.

WooCommerce has already adapted whole themes for it, that is, themes for WordPress, which are designed to work with the plugin as much as possible. No, you don’t have to use them, you can choose or develop your own theme.

So, the easiest way to get an online store consists of the following steps:

  1. Install WordPreess
  2. Install WooCommerce
  3. Decide on a theme (the appearance of the site)
  4. Add products to the site

Conclusions:

So, to go through these steps, you don’t need to know programming languages, interfere with the code, or even be a programmer. But, this applies only when you are completely satisfied with the basic functionality of the selected theme. In the future, I will describe all the steps in detail and share the experience gained.
